AFIO Mission

AFIO's mission is to build a public constituency for a sound, healthy and capable U.S. intelligence system.

Our focus on education fosters an understanding of the important role of intelligence in National Security and nurtures interest by students in careers in the many fields used by U.S. Intelligence Agencies. This includes the role of supporting intelligence activities in U.S. policy, diplomacy, strategy, security and defense.

In addition, AFIO focuses on understanding the critical need for effective counterintelligence and security against foreign, political, technological or economic espionage, as well as covert, clandestine and overt counter-terrorist or criminal operations threatening US security, the national infrastructure or corporate and individual safety. AFIO’s mission has special significance in today’s international diplomatic and business environments.

Chapter Purpose

AFIO Chapters are groups which have formed locally and are supported and chartered by AFIO National Headquarters to conduct activities in consonance with current AFIO bylaws, principles and educational objectives. Through meetings, publications and scholarships, Chapter members serve to maintain and strengthen professional and collegial bonds.

Chapters generally conduct two kinds of activity:

Informative Educational Programs. Each program is designed to assist members to become effective “ambassadors of intelligence” - promoting public understanding of the role and importance of US intelligence to the security and well-being of the nation.

Civic Outreach Programs. These programs are primarily designed to support AFIO educational objectives within the local community. This includes speaking to regional civic associations, guest lectures at local colleges, scholarship awards to high school or college students or a variety of similar endeavors. Chapter members also serve as mentors for young people interested in exploring careers in the intelligence sector.Members - AFIO is Driven by Volunteers
